Sunil Joshi set to take charge as spin bowling coach at BCCI CoE from October 1
NEW DELHI: Former India spinner Sunil Joshi is all set to become the new spin bowling coach at BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru from October 1. The 55-year-old was keenly involved during the recently concluded Duleep Trophy and even travelled with the India A side for their games vs Australia A in Lucknow.
Joshi's move means Punjab Kings will now need to look for a new assistant coach as the left-armer was part of the Ricky Ponting-led coaching staff in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last season.
Multiple candidates were interviewed for the position earlier this year. But Joshi, with his wealth of coaching experience, pipped the likes of Rakesh Dhruv and Nooshin Al Khadeer, the current India U-19 women's team coach.
Apart from his IPL experience, Joshi had coached Uttar Pradesh in the domestic circuit and was also the spin bowling consultant for the Bangladesh side.

Prior to Joshi, Sairaj Bahutale was the spin bowling coach at the CoE, previously known as the National Cricket Academy (NCA), but he vacated the position after taking a similar role with Rajasthan Royals before the 2025 edition of the cash-rich league.
The Indian cricket board invited applications for the position at the CoE in March this year and had emphasised how the "role is integral to the development and performance enhancement of India's spin bowling talent across all formats and age groups including India Senior Teams (Men & Women), India A, U-23, U-19, U-16, and U-15 squads and State association players training at the BCCI COE."
Joshi will work very closely with CoE Head VVS Laxman and help identify, nurture and groom the spinners for the future. His role will not just be restricted to the future talent but also involve regular work with the current set of spinners in the Indian team, and also the ones who would train at the CoE.
