In August, the ICC charged Jayawickrama for failing to report a match-fixing approach and obstructing an investigation. He was approached to fix international matches and asked to involve another player to fix matches during the 2021 Lanka Premier League season.

The ICC confirmed Jayawickrama admitted to the breaches. “As a result of the admission, Jayawickrama has accepted a sanction of a one-year period of ineligibility, of which the last six months are suspended,” the ICC stated.

Jayawickrama debuted internationally in April 2021 and took 11 wickets in his first test match against Bangladesh. He has played five Test matches, five one-day internationals, and five Twenty20 internationals, but has not represented Sri Lanka since June 2022.
