BENGALURU: What seemed like a keen contest on the cards on Saturday looks headed for a draw after rain played spoilsport. On the third day of India 'A' and South Africa 'A' four-day game on Sunday, two of the three sessions at the Alur (1) ground were washed out by rain. The only session possible was the one between lunch and tea and India 'A' managed to bowl 33 overs in the period.

Resuming at their overnight score of 219/3, the visitors lost four wickets on the day to finish with 294/7 in 92.3 overs. They still trail the home team's first innings tally of 345 by 51 runs.

Hendrik van der Dussen, who was18 at stumps on Saturday, did not add much to his tally and edged an Ankit Rajpoot delivery to wicketkeeper KS Bharat. Rudi Second followed soon caught by Prithvi Shaw at midwicket, off Rajpoot. Mohammed Siraj took a quick-reflex catch - off

at covers - to send Dwaine Pretorius back.

Dane Piedt and Senuran Muthusamy then brought some relief to the Proteas camp with their 40-run seventh-wicket stand before Siraj shattered the former's stumps. Although the players returned after an early tea was called, they were back in the pavilion almost immediately following a fresh spell of rain.

Brief scores: South Africa 'A' 294 for 7 (Hamza 93, Erwee 58, Second 47, Rajpoot 2-42, Siraj 2-58) trail India 'A' 345 by 51 runs.
