'Sensitive time': Palak Muchhal breaks silence after Palash–Smriti Mandhana wedding gets postponed
NEW DELHI: Indian playback singer Palak Muchhal has made a statement after the postponement of her brother Palash Muchhal's wedding to India cricketer Smriti Mandhana due to health concerns on Sunday.
"Due to Smriti's father's health, Smriti and Palash's wedding has been put on hold. We would request all of you to respect the privacy of the families during this sensitive time (sic)," Palak shared through her Instagram stories.
After the postponement, Smriti Mandhana has removed all wedding-related content from her social media handles, including the proposal video and wedding announcements. Her teammates Jemimah Rodrigues and Shreyanka Patil have also deleted the announcement video from their social media platforms.
Both Smriti's father Shriniwas and her fiancé Palash Muchhal were hospitalised, though Palash has been discharged and resting in Mumbai. While wedding-related posts have been removed, casual photos of Smriti with Palash remain on her Instagram handle.
The family has confirmed that Mr Mandhana's condition is stable and under medical observation. Smriti's manager Tuhin Mishra has announced the cancellation of the ceremony.
"Today in the morning, when he was having breakfast, Smriti Mandana's father, Mr Shriniwas Mandhana, got unwell. We waited for a while. We thought that maybe it's normal, he will be fine. But he was getting worse. So we thought, let's not take any risk, so we called an ambulance and took him to the hospital. Now he is under observation," Mishra stated on Sunday.
"You know Smriti is very close to her father. She decided that until her father gets well, this marriage, which was supposed to happen today, is indefinitely postponed. Now he is under observation, and the doctor has said that he will have to stay in the hospital. And until he gets well, because we are also in shock, and we want him to recover soon."
The wedding was originally scheduled for November 23 in Sangli, Maharashtra. It was planned as an intimate celebration with family members and fans in attendance.
Several members of the Women's World Cup-winning Indian cricket team were present during the wedding celebrations before the postponement.
The couple and their families have requested privacy during this period as they focus on Mr. Mandhana's recovery.

I hope it is not the typical Indian Movie Script, where the bride's father falls ill after the groom's family demands a hefty dowry. It is not uncommon in our Marwari community even today.Read allPost comment
