MUMBAI: More and more cricket associations in India are pitching in to help India tackle the massive crisis triggered by the spread of novel coronavirus pandemic.


A day after the

Mumbai Cricket Association

(MCA) decided to donate Rs 50 lakhs to the Maharashtra government, it was the turn of the

Saurashtra Cricket Association

(SCA) to bat for the cause by donating Rs 42 lakhs to fight the deadly virus.

In a media release issued on Friday, SCA secretary Himanshu Shah said: "The (SCA) president Jaydev Shah and I, on behalf of the Apex Council and members of the SCA, declare donations of Rs 21 lakh to the honourable Prime Minister of India relief fund, and Rs 21 lacs to the honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat relief fund."

"The SCA has all care and concern for the citizens of India in this challenging situation of the novel coronavirus pandemic. We request and urge all Indians to stay indoors, stay fit and stay safe," said Niranjan Shah, former secretary of the BCCI and SCA.

On Wednesday,

Cricket Association of Bengal

(CAB) treasurer Debasish Ganguly had announced that the CAB has donated 25 lakhs towards the West Bengal government's emergency relief fund. On the same day, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly had pledged to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh to the needy people.
