Saurashtra's Sheldon Jackson retires from professional cricket
NEW DELHI: Saurashtra batting stalwart Sheldon Jackson on Tuesday announced his retirement from professional cricket after a 15-year career.
Jackson's featured in his final match in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Gujarat in New Delhi which ended in a defeat.
The 38-year-old ends concludes his career with impressive statistics, accumulating over 7,200 runs in 105 first-class matches. His highest score was 186, including 21 centuries and 39 half-centuries.

Jackson maintained a remarkable average of over 45 throughout his first-class career, demonstrating his consistent performance at the domestic level.
A versatile player, Jackson excelled as a reliable batsman and skilled fielder. He also served as wicketkeeper for Saurashtra in limited-overs competitions, though the role wasn't needed in longer formats due to Sagar Jogiyani's presence.
In his final match, Jackson scored 14 and 27 as Gujarat secured victory by an innings and 98 runs.
His cricket journey began with Kolkata Knight Riders after being noticed by former Bengal player Joydeep Mukherjee. He made his debut for Saurashtra in December 2011, following three years on the team's selection fringes.
The 2012-13 Ranji season proved significant for Jackson, where he scored four fifties and three hundreds. His consecutive centuries in the quarter-final and semi-final against Karnataka and Punjab helped Saurashtra reach their first-ever final.
His outstanding performance in the 2012-13 season earned him a spot in the India A team for the home series against West Indies A.
Jackson also played a crucial role in Saurashtra's second Ranji Trophy title campaign in 2015-16.
Last month, Jackson concluded his limited-overs career with impressive statistics. He scored 2,792 runs in 84 innings, with his highest score being an unbeaten 133 during the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
His limited-overs career featured nine centuries and 14 half-centuries, marking a successful chapter in his cricketing journey.
