Season 3 of the SA20 cricket league began in Gqeberha on Thursday, featuring a skilled panel of 21 match officials. The panel includes 16 umpires and five match referees who will oversee the group stage matches.
Marais Erasmus, a highly respected figure in the cricketing world, will lead the expanded umpire panel. Erasmus has an impressive record, officiating in nearly 400 international matches across various formats in both men's and women's cricket.

Agenbag recently umpired the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, further enhancing her already impressive resume.
Fritz, a former captain of the South African women's cricket team, will serve as a match referee, bringing her extensive experience of 148 international matches to the role. Joining Fritz in the match referee panel are Barry Lambson, Laurence Matroos, Zed Ndamane, and Gerrie Pienaar.
As part of an ongoing Umpire Exchange Programme with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), James Middlebrook will join the officiating team for four matches in this season's SA20.
Erasmus and Middlebrook will work alongside members of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Elite Umpires Panel. This panel includes four officials from the ICC Elite Panel: Lubabalo Gcuma, Stephen Harris, Bongani Jele, and Allahudien Paleker. Paleker was recognized as CSA’s Umpire of the Year for the 2023/24 season.
The opening match of the tournament was played on Thursday evening, January 9, where MI Cape Town got the better of two-time defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
