The SA20 has confirmed the updated squads for its fourth season ahead of the tournament opener between MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants at Newlands on Friday.
Durban’s Super Giants have welcomed back Kane Williamson, with the former New Zealand captain returning to Kingsmead after finishing as the team’s leading run-scorer last season. Williamson replaces Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.
Joburg Super Kings have made multiple changes, drafting in Matthew de Villiers, Jarren Bacher and Duan Jansen. De Villiers comes in for West Indies opener Brandon King, while Bacher temporarily replaces England seamer Reece Topley. Teenager Jorich van Schalkwyk, who had initially replaced James Vince, has since joined South Africa’s U19 World Cup squad, prompting Jansen’s inclusion. Topley and Vince are expected to rejoin the squad later in the season.

Paarl Royals have again leaned on youth, calling up English teenager Thomas Rew as a temporary replacement for Dan Lawrence. Fast bowler Okuhle Cele has also joined the squad, replacing JJ Basson, who will be on U19 World Cup duty.
Pretoria Capitals have continued reshaping their squad post-auction, bringing in West Indies pair Shai Hope and Roston Chase for Will Jacks and Bayanda Majola. England bowlers Sajid Mahmood and Craig Overton have been replaced by Jordan Cox and Tymal Mills. Cox, a former SA20 winner with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and two-time T20 World Cup champion Andre Russell will arrive late, with Keith Dudgeon and Daniel Smith filling in temporarily.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape will begin the season without Afghanistan spinner AM Ghazanfar, who is unavailable for the opening phase. Sri Lanka’s Tharindu Rathnayake has been named as his temporary replacement.
