NEW DELHI: Indian captain Rohit Sharma visited Musheer Khan, a promising young batsman from Mumbai and the India U-19 squad. Musheer is currently recuperating from injuries he suffered in a road accident.
The accident, which occurred near Lucknow in September-end, resulted in Musheer sustaining a "fracture in the neck region." This unfortunate incident forced him to sit out the Irani Cup match, where his team, Mumbai, the Ranji Trophy champions, faced off against the Rest of India.
Due to the extent of his injuries, Musheer will also be absent from Mumbai's first two matches in the upcoming Ranji Trophy tournament, which is set to commence on Friday. Musheer is the younger sibling of Sarfaraz Khan, a well-known batting talent who represents both Mumbai and India.
Musheer confirmed that he was okay after the accident but had to sit out as his brother played a pivotal role in Mumbai's first Irani Cup title win in 27 years, scoring a match-winning double hundred that he dedicated to Musheer.
Musheer shared a photo on Instagram of himself wearing a neck brace, along with Rohit and his father, Naushad Khan.
The 19-year-old Musheer has made a name for himself as a key player in India's U19 World Cup runners-up squad, finishing as the tournament's second-highest run-scorer with 360 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 60.00, which included two centuries and a fifty. His highest score in the tournament was 131, but his team ultimately lost to Australia in the final.
Since then, Musheer has quickly advanced in first-class cricket for Mumbai since making his debut in 2022. In nine matches and 15 innings, he has accumulated 716 runs at an average of 51.14, featuring three centuries and a fifty, with a personal best score of 203*.
