Rohit Sharma celebrates Mother's Day with heartfelt wishes to mom and wife Ritika Sajdeh
NEW DELHI: On Mother's Day, India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma shared heartfelt wishes on his social media platform for his mother, Purnima Sharma, and wife, Ritika Sajdeh.
Through his Instagram story, he shared photographs with both, writing "Happy Mother's Day. To the ones who made the world our happy place."
The Indian cricket stalwart declared his departure from Test cricket shortly before India's upcoming five-Test series against England, which begins June 20 at Headingley.
His Test career concluded after 67 matches across 11 years.
During his Test tenure, which began against the West Indies in November 2013, Rohit accumulated 4,301 runs with an impressive average of 40.57.
His statistics include 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries, with his highest score of 212 achieved during the 2019 home series against South Africa. He concludes his career as India's 16th highest run-scorer in Test cricket.
His Test journey commenced brilliantly with a score of 177 against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata 2013. Despite showing considerable talent and delivering notable performances, he initially found it challenging to establish himself in the Test format, particularly in overseas conditions.
Between 2013-18, his record showed 1,585 runs from 27 Tests at an average of 39.63, including three centuries and 10 fifties across 47 innings, with 151 as his highest score.
He faced particular difficulties in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) nations, where success is considered crucial for Indian batsmen.
His Test career received fresh impetus when he scored two centuries against South Africa at Visakhapatnam in 2019 as an opener. Throughout the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) era, he played 40 Tests, scoring 2,716 runs at an average of 41.15, with nine centuries and eight fifties, including his highest score of 212.
He holds the distinction of being India's leading run-scorer and century-maker in WTC history, ranking tenth among all batsmen. Under his leadership, India reached the WTC final against Australia in the UK in 2023, though they didn't secure victory.
