BENGALURU: The focus in the penultimate round of the Ranji Trophy fixtures was on four batters from the Indian Test team – Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.
While three continued to work with a cold bat, Gill, captaining Punjab, compiled an assured century against Karnataka here on Saturday to gain some much-needed confidence.

In the first hour of play, it was evident Gill was in for the long haul, as he confidently stepped out against the fourprone Karnataka pace attack. The Punjab innings was in tatters and the defeat was inevitable, but that did little to waver Gill’s focus.
Punjab were shot out for 213 in 63.4 overs in their second innings to lose by an innings and 207 runs.
