Ranji Trophy: Sarfaraz Khan smashes a masterful double ton

HYDERABAD: Sarfaraz Khan converted his overnight century to a masterful double, his fifth in first-class cricket, on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group D match against Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on Friday.


Sarfaraz’s 227 (219b, 19x4, 9x6) guided Mumbai to a mammoth 560. Sarfaraz, who resumed at 142, added 154 runs with Suved Parker (75; 98b, 11x4, 1x6).



Hyderabad ended the day at 138/2, still trailing by 422 runs.

Sarfaraz lost his overnight partner Himanshu Sharma cheaply, but continued his aggressive knock in the morning session. Suved reached his half-century in 53 balls while Sarfaraz guided Rohit Rayudu for a single to reach his double ton in 206 balls and celebrated exclaiming Mumbai mazhi Maa aa hai (Mumbai is my mother)!

Sarfaraz then pulled Rakshann, who peppered him with short balls, for three sixes in an over but was soon castled as Mumbai inched close to the 500-mark.

Gill flops as Saurashtra hammer Punjab
Rajkot: Star batsman Shubman Gill endured his second successive unproductive outing as Saurashtra thrashed Punjab 194 runs on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match on Friday.

Chasing a daunting 320 on a tough pitch, Gill fell for a 32-ball 14 as the visitors were bundled out for 125 in their second innings.

Shivam replaces injured Veer
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh’s left-arm spinner Shivam Sharma was drafted into the side’s playing eleven as a Serious Injury Replacement for all-rounder Prashant Veer, who sustained a shoulder injury while fielding.

Delhi feel the heat
Delhi, who were shot out for 216 on day one, were under tremendous pressure against Chhattisgarh who reached 351 for two.

Ayush Pandey led Chhattisgarh's charge with a splendid 161 not out (313 balls; 17 fours, 1 six) while Anuj Tiwary scored 108 (197 balls, 14 fours).

In Rajkot: Saurashtra 172 & 286 (Prerak Mankad 56, Ravindra Jadeja 46; Harpreet Brar 5-104) beat Punjab 139 and 125 all out (Uday Saharan 31; Parth Bhut 5-8, Dharmendra Jadeja 5-55) by 194 runs.

In Hyderabad: Mumbai 560 (Sarfaraz Khan 227, Siddhesh Lad 104; Rakshann Readdi 4-107) lead Hyderabad 138/2 (Rahul Gahlaut 82*) by 422 runs.

In Bengaluru: Delhi 216 vs Chhattisgarh 351/2 in 102 overs (Ayush Pandey 161*, Anuj Tiwary 108; Divij Mehra 1/41) by 135 runs.
