Already conceding the first-innings lead on Day 2 of their
Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match, hosts
Assam had to be content with just a point from the game against Saurashtra at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Friday. The draw handed the visitors three points.
Resuming the day on 115 for one, Assam lost both the overnight batters Kunal Saikia (60) and Rishav Das (29) inside the first four overs with an addition of just five runs to the total.
However, in-form
Riyan Parag (95 off 150 balls, 8x4, 5x6) joined hands with veteran Sibsankar Roy (75 off 139, 11x4) to see off any further hiccup and stitched together a 180-run stand for the fourth wicket as Assam reached 300 after the initial double blow. But both the batters fell in quick succession before tea with Roy being the first to go while Riyan followed suit five runs short of his century.
Veteran batter Gokul Sharma was the last man to fall for Assam post tea, before Assam captain Saikia and his Saurashtra counterpart Arpit Vasavada decided to shake hands with the last hour of play remaining. Assam next host Delhi at the same venue while Saurashtra travel back home to take on Maharashtra.
Brief Scores: Assam 286 & 366/6 (R Parag 95, S Roy 75). Saurashtra 492. Match drawn. Assam 1 point, Saurashtra 3 points.
