BENGALURU: Seasoned pacer
Abhimanyu Mithun has shouldered the responsibility of spearheading the
Karnataka pace attack with confidence. Against Baroda it was no different with discipline and variation being the watchwords.
Picking three wickets in four balls on Wednesday, Mithun, who is currently the highest wicket-taker of the team with 26 sticks, again proved to be the game-changer for the hosts.
With an 80-run lead on the opening day of their last league fixture, Mithun admitted that the former champions should have fared better as a batting unit.
Excerpts:On the pitch: It was good to bat as well. We bowled well in the first innings. There is moisture, as always, in the first session of the wicket. It was there when we bowled.
On Karnataka's batting: I think as a batting unit, we should have done much better. When I batted (in the final session), it felt it has become a little bit slower.
On the three-wicket haul: I knew I was bowling in the right areas and needed one wicket. After I got the first wicket, I was confident of getting more. When Krunal (Pandya) was batting, I knew I should bowl a bouncer and I got the result.
On the return of Prasidh: Everyone knows how Prasidh bowls. He is quick. Batsmen are scared to face the new ball against him. Today he bowled really well. Hopefully, he gets a five-for in the second innings.
On the lead: We have three more wickets and if we manage to add around 30-40 runs obviously, we will have a lead of more than 100 runs. Then, if we pick early wickets with the new ball, Baroda will be under pressure. The match is in our hands and Prasidh is also back and the fast bowlers are bowling well.
On the pitch changing: The moisture will not be there. It will be a little bit slow. Hopefully we can see little turn as there are some cracks already. We are a good bowling side and we can attack the batsmen and bowl to our strengths and take 10 wickets.
