Ranji Trophy: Mumbai set for innings win vs Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: After a dominating batting display, Mumbai’s bowling unit fired in unison, taking 15 Hyderabad wickets on the third day to set them on course for an innings victory in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group D match at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on Saturday.
The visitors, without spinners Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian and Atharva Ankolekar — who was injured on Day 2 — executed their plans well.
Helped by lacklustre batting from the hosts, Mumbai, who made 560 in the first innings, dismissed the hosts for 267 and enforced follow-on after taking a 293-run first innings lead.
For good measure, they sealed the fate of the match by reducing Hyderabad to 166/7 in their second innings.
The hosts still need 127 runs to make Mumbai bat again.
Bengal also on cusp of victory: Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket burst put hosts Bengal on the verge of an outright victory against Services.
Shami produced a fine 16-3-51-5 effort, running through the opposition batting, as Services were left reeling on 231 for eight with another 102 runs in deficit in their Elite Group C match in Kalyani.
Delhi fare well in second knock: Delhi showed gumption in their second innings on Day 3 after being dominated by Chhattisgarh on the previous two at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Delhi reached 158/3 in the second innings with 131 runs in deficit.
Priyansh Arya fell for 82 off 57 balls, leading Delhi’s counter-attack while adding 123 with Sanat Sangwan (40) for the opening stand.
MP build 336-run lead over Karnataka: In Alur, Himanshu Mantri made an unbeaten 89 off 203 balls as Madhya Pradesh established an overall lead of 336 runs against Karnataka.
Mantri added 58 runs for the second wicket with Shubham Sharma after Yash Dubey departed early in MP’s second innings.
