NEW DELHI: Mumbai moved into the knockout stage with a bonus-point win over Hyderabad, beating them by nine wickets in their Group D Ranji Trophy match on Sunday in Hyderabad.
Starting the fourth day on 166 for seven, Hyderabad were dismissed for 302 in 69.5 overs in their second innings. Musheer Khan led Mumbai’s bowling effort, finishing with five wickets for 49. The left-arm spinner picked up two of the last three wickets to complete his five-for.
Mumbai then chased the target of 10 runs, reaching it in 3.2 overs with the loss of one wicket.
With one league match remaining, Mumbai are placed first in the Group D table with 30 points. Jammu and Kashmir are second with 21 points, followed by Chhattisgarh on 17.
Jammu and Kashmir shared points with Puducherry after their match ended in a draw, with the final day washed out due to rain. Chhattisgarh also played out a draw with Delhi in Bengaluru.
Earlier in the match, Mumbai had bowled out Hyderabad for 282 in the first innings after posting 561 for six declared. Captain Siddhesh Lad enforced the follow-on, and Hyderabad ended the third day at 166 for seven.
Mumbai had already confirmed qualification for the knockouts by securing a first-innings lead, and the outright win strengthened their position in the group.
For Hyderabad, Chama Milind top-scored with 85 off 128 balls. Resuming on 30, he added 69 runs with Nitin Sai Yadav (32) and later put on 61 runs with captain Mohammed Siraj (32). Milind was the last batter to be dismissed, becoming Musheer Khan’s fifth wicket.
Onkar Tarmale, who came into the playing XI after Atharva Ankolekar was ruled out with an injury on the second day, took two wickets for 48, including that of Siraj. Pacer Mohit Avasthi finished with figures of three for 47 from nine overs.
