Prithvi Shaw to miss Mumbai's first two Ranji Trophy ties

MUMBAI: Out for the last four months due to a bad knee injury he suffered while playing for Northamptonshire, opener Prithvi Shaw is set to miss the first two matches of the Ranji Trophy, which will kick off from January 5.

When the Mumbai selectors picked a 27-man probables' list on Monday for a preparatory camp for the Ranji Trophy, Shaw's name was missing. "Yes, Prithvi will miss our first two Ranji matches, against Bihar (in Patna from January 5), and Andhra (from January 12)," chief selector Raju Kulkarni told TOI on Thursday. The selectors have also dropped openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Divyaansh Saxena.

"We want Raghuvanshi and Saxena to play for the Mumbai under-23 team in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy and get some runs under their belt," said Kulkarni.

Meanwhile, the MCA's selection committee, coaches, support staff, office-bearers and the CIC had a 15-hour long brain-storming session on Monday and Tuesday to discuss the senior team's poor performance in the white-ball tournaments this season.

"We met eight-nine of our players, especially our batsmen, since batting has been a big concern for us. We wanted to take their feedback too," Kulkarni revealed.
