Champions Trophy final to be moved from Lahore? PCB break silence on report

In response to increasing speculation about India’s involvement in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy potentially being shifted from Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly rejected claims suggesting India’s matches could be moved to the UAE. A report by The Telegraph on Tuesday said if India were to qualify for the final, it might be relocated to Dubai due to the ongoing political tensions between the two nations.

The report suggested that, aside from the final, the semi-finals might also face relocation.

India has not visited Pakistan since July 2008, largely due to the strained political relations that have hindered bilateral series and tournaments on Pakistani soil. This context has raised concerns that India's participation in the Champions Trophy might yet again be jeopardised, possibly prompting logistical changes from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

However, Pakistan-based DunyaNews reported that the PCB promptly addressed the claims and have quashed such a move being in the works.

The board reaffirmed its dedication to hosting the entire Champions Trophy within Pakistan, asserting, “Despite the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, the PCB remains steadfast in its stance to ensure a successful and uninterrupted tournament,” PCB said.

The PCB further stated, "There is absolutely no truth to the reports suggesting that the Champions Trophy final could be moved outside Pakistan," said a PCB spokesperson. "We are working diligently to ensure that all preparations for the tournament are on track, and we are confident that Pakistan will be able to host a memorable event."

At this time, there has been no official statement from the ICC regarding any changes in venue. Nevertheless, various reports have hinted that the tournament might adopt a hybrid model, similar to the setup of the 2023 Asia Cup, where India played all their matches — and the final — in Sri Lanka.
