DINDIGUL: Tamil Nadu opener Murali Vijay was fined 10 percent of his match fee after showing dissent at an umpiring decision on Day 1 of their Ranji Trophy clash against Karnataka on Monday.

The incident occurred in the 70th over of Karnataka's innings when umpire Nitin Pandit adjudged Pavan Deshpande not out despite two successive appeals for caught behind off R Ashwin's bowling.

The second call especially frustrated the TN players, who were convinced that Deshpande had nicked the ball. Vijay, who was standing at slip, looked visibly annoyed as he removed his hat and charged towards the middle of the pitch in disbelief. Eventually, it needed square leg umpire Anil Dandekar to intervene and calm Vijay and his teammates.

While TN coach D Vasu said that umpiring errors are part and parcel of the game, he felt the use of DRS in domestic cricket would be a welcome addition.

"We would love to have technology in domestic cricket. When two strong teams are competing, small things can make a huge difference. If technology is available and money is available, why not? There is so much at stake these days for the players with regards to their careers," Vasu said.
