NAGPUR:

Vidarbha

bowlers once again found their gear early in the match in the final of the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy. The bowlers choked runs and did not let Mumbai score at the desired rate. As both pacers and spinners showed tremendous discipline, Mumbai crawled to 226 for 3 on Day-1 of the title-decider.

Only the last 40 minutes of the day saw some quick runs being scored by Armaan Jaffer. The right-handed

Jaffer

played some square-cuts to the best effect towards the end that gave them a bit of impetus at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Owing to Jaffer's late stroke play (76 n.o; 143b, 7x4, 2x6), Mumbai added 35 runs in the last 10 overs of the day after Vidarbha bowlers restricted them for 80 overs by bowling within the stumps on a wicket that has a slow spin.

Though Vidarbha may not have been happy after Mumbai won their sixth consecutive toss in the tournament, the bowlers dealt with the situation with complete calm. Pacer Nachiket

Bhute

(17-5-27-1) troubled the opposition by consistently bowling at the stumps.

The other pacer,

Praful Hinge

(21-5-43-0) and duo of left-arm spinners - Parth Rekhade (22-5-51-1) and Harsh Dubey (23-2-79-1) - bowled in tandem and made the scoring look difficult. It was opener

Bhupen Lalwani

(88; 200b, 10x4, 1x6), who handled the trio by putting his best foot forward.

However, Bhute, the most economical bowler, brought one back in to trap

Lalwani

plumb just before tea break. Later,

Armaan

took over but Vidarbha kept him under control before he unveiled some quality square-cuts.

Once again, Vidarbha opened the bowling with a spinner - offie Yash Kadam - from one end like they did in the semis.

Brief Scores: Mumbai 226-3 in 90 overs (Bhupen Lalwani 88, Armaan Jaffer 76 n.o; Nachiket Bhute 1-27, Parth Rekhade 1-51, Harsh Dubey 1-79) ) vs Vidarbha
