MCA vice-president Amol Kale optimistic about Sourav Ganguly’s tenure as BCCI chief

The newly elected vice-president of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Amol Kale has joined the long list of cricketers and administrators congratulating Ganguly, who is set to be appointed as next BCCI chief next week.

“Certainly it is a very good move that a cricketer is becoming the BCCI boss now. We all know that Ganguly as a cricketer has made a massive change in the attitude of Indian cricketers. He has a special leadership qualities and I have no doubt that his rich experience as a top class sportsperson will surely help the Indian cricket in future,” said Kale.

He was interacting with the sports scribes during Meet the Press programme, organized by the Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at its office here on Saturday.

unopposed recently. “Although I am not a right person to comment that Ganguly should be given a longer duration to head the richest cricketing body in the world, personally I feel he should be given an extension as he is capable of making huge impact on the fortunes of Indian cricket,” said Kale, a businessman by profession.

Kale has completed his schooling from Saraswati Vidyalaya, HSC from Dharampeth Science College and graduation (electrical engineering) from YCCE College.

He believes that there is a lot of scope to work in MCA and they are working seriously on it.

“There were days when Mumbai cricketers used to dominate the Indian cricket. Basically MCA has good structure at school and college level. But unfortunately in the last few years, cricket was not properly managed in MCA. As a result, very few players are now in the Indian side. The new MCA body is determined to bring back the glory days of Mumbai cricket,” he said.

Kale also advocated that more matches should be played between MCA and other state associations to give the cricketers enough exposure for the tough domestic cricket. “We are planning to give the exposure to the budding players by organizing the matches with other state teams including Vidarbha Cricket Association. In the next few years, you can see Mumbai cricket team coming to Vidarbha more often and vice-versa,” he said.

Kale said for the betterment of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar has suggested some relevant points that were accepted by MCA. He said Sachin has suggested that major focus should be on school cricket, deal with age fraud issue strictly, importance to the safety of the players and encouragement to women’s cricket.
