“Hon. Secretary (as a convenor) and in his absence Jt. Secretary will attend the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) meetings along with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Association,” Naik said in an MCA release on Tuesday. On September 9, the CIC didn’t allow MCA secretary Sanjay Naik and CEO CS Naik to be a part of the interview process for coaches. The MCA has also decided that the support staff of the team will be picked by the selection committee, which is yet to be appointed.

Naik also clarified that none of the Apex Council members had used batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s name “to influence any appointments” for the posts of coaches and selectors of the Mumbai team. CIC chairman Lalchand Rajput had on September 11 complained to MCA president Vijay Patil that “certain individuals” were using Tendulkar’s name to recommend certain candidates for the position of coaches and selectors to his committee.

“The articles published in various newspapers about Apex Council members using the name of Tendulkar to influence the appointments were also discussed by the Council. It was made clear that none of the Apex Council members had used the name of Tendulkar to influence any appointments. The Hon president had authorised

Amit Dani

to provide his suggestions to the Cricket Improvement Committee considering that he is a first class cricketer and actively involved in cricket at the grass root levels. Dani had only made certain suggestions regarding the candidates to be interviewed and he had in no way recommended any name for appointment,” Naik said in the release.
