Like father, like son! Junior AB de Villiers scores half century; father shares proud post

Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers took to Instagram on Sunday to share a proud family moment after his son scored a fifty in a recent match.

De Villiers reshared a post originally uploaded by his wife, Danielle de Villiers, who expressed her joy and pride over their child’s performance.

Danielle’s post, accompanied by pictures of their son in action, captured the excitement of the moment as she celebrated his milestone.


"Ag my heart! Our baby AB made his first 50 yesterday," she shared on social media.

The couple have three kids - two sons, Abraham and John Richard, born in 2015 and 2017, and a daughter, Yente, who was born in 2020.

Danielle also made sure to conceal her kid's face while posting him, using a heart emoji to do so.

The couple’s emotional moment drew warm reactions from fans, many of whom have followed de Villiers’ life closely since his retirement. The images shared by Danielle showed their child at the crease, showcasing the same love for the game that has long defined the de Villiers family.

AB, known for his own cricketing genius, has often spoken about family being at the centre of his life since stepping away from international cricket. His resharing of the post reflected the same as he gave fans a peek into the simple but heartfelt moment of pride.

He also recently went viral for his comments about Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during the launch of the proposed “Test Twenty” format.

Speaking at the event, de Villiers said, “I’m one of those guys who take what I can get. If Tiger Woods comes back and makes a few shots, I’m just happy he’s playing. Same with these two. They know what they still want to achieve; the 2027 World Cup is probably their main target. I just wish them all the success and a fantastic end to their careers, whenever that may finish.”
