KS Bharat, the wicketkeeper-batsman from Andhra Pradesh, is set to captain India A in the upcoming two four-day matches against South Africa A, coinciding with the senior team's tour later this month.
On Thursday, the BCCI revealed separate squads for the two matches, featuring players like Bharat, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Dhruv Jurel, Manav Suthar and Vidhwath Kaverappa in both games. Easwaran's participation, however, is contingent on his fitness, according to the BCCI.
Having last played for India in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June, the 30-year-old Bharat is eager to make his mark. Devdutt Padikkal, Karnataka's leading run-scorer in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, has earned a spot in the squad for the first match leading up to the Boxing Day Test in Centurion.
Sarfaraz Khan from Mumbai, along with Prasidh Krishna and Tushar Deshpande, is part of the squad for the first match scheduled from December 11 to 14. The second four-day game, scheduled from December 26 to 29, will see the inclusion of Tilak Varma, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel and Navdeep Saini.
The BCCI has also announced an inter-squad for a three-day match set for December 20 to 22, including notable names like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who will miss the white-ball series against South Africa. Star players Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer are also part of the squad.
However, the BCCI has not yet designated a captain for the inter-squad three-day match.
