MUMBAI: An emotionally charged speech by former India stumper and chief selector Kiran More, who was the chief guest on the occasion, lit up the prize distribution function of the Times Cricket Shield.
"People say that my defining moment was the (face-off) with (former Pakistan batting great)
Javed Miandad in the 1992 World Cup, or effecting six stumpings (during the Chennai Test against the West Indies in 1988).
However, for me, my defining moment was making my debut in the Times Cricket Shield. Today, I'm standing here thanks to Times Cricket Shield and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), which allowed me to participate in it," said the 55-year-old.
He then relived the journey to what turned out to be a memorable Times Shield debut. "I got an opportunity thanks to Milind Rege. They selected me to play for the Tatas. It was the first time I came to Mumbai, and was staying at Andheri. I remember getting into a crowded train for my match at Islam Gymkhana on Marine Drive. When I got down, my kit bag was still inside! It was my first experience of Mumbai, and a lesson for me about the city," he reminisced.
