India 'A' fielded better, says Sam Billings

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: England Lions captain Sam Billings scored his sixth List-A century, which incidentally is the first-ever hundred by any batsman at the Sports Hub, on Wednesday. But his innings of 104 was not good enough as India 'A' won the first of the five-match one-day series by three wickets. The Lions thus remained winless in their tour. They had lost the two warm-up games against the Board President's XI.
With the World Cup coming up, the century will only help Billings cause for a national team call-up but he was not fretting on that. "I'm not bothered about selection. It's not in my hands. All I can do is go out there and score runs. It's good to have scored the century but ultimately it didn't matter as we have lost the game," said Billings.
The 27-year-old Kent player believes the Indian team fielded better. "India's fielding made the difference. We could have fielded a bit better. There were a few overthrows in the end," said Billings.
The Lions skipper also lauded Ishan Kishan for keeping his cool and taking India 'A' over the line. "As a batsman, the most important thing is to get the team over the line. If we had got Ishan out for 40, we would have won the game. It was his innings that mattered in the end," added Billings.
