New Zealand's Tim Southee will captain the Sharjah Warriorz in the upcoming ILT20, the team announced on Thursday (26 December). This marks Southee’s first time playing in the ILT20.
Southee, 36, has played for New Zealand in four ODI World Cups and six T20 World Cups. He has also captained the national team across formats.
He has a decade-long experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for teams like Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has also played in The Hundred and the Vitality Blast in the UK.
Southee is known for his pace and swing bowling, along with his ability to hit as a lower-order batter. He has played 126 T20Is, taking 164 wickets. His best bowling figures are 5/18.
The New Zealander who began his international career at the age of 19, made his debut in T20I cricket first, after which he went onto play his first games in ODIs and Tests for his country.
On debut in T20Is against England, Southee’s first international wicket was that of Paul Collingwood. Overall, he has played 126 T20Is and has 164 wickets to his name, at an economy of 8, a strike rate of 16.7. The ace pacer’s best bowling figures in T20Is is 5/18.
Sharjah Warriorz will play their first match against Gulf Giants on January 12. The ILT20 season begins on January 11.
