'I remember presenting you ... ': Sachin Tendulkar's touching message for Rohit Sharma
NEW DELHI: Sachin Tendulkar penned an emotional tribute to Rohit Sharma following the latter’s decision to retire from Test cricket on Wednesday. Rohit made the announcement ahead of India’s upcoming tour of England next month but confirmed he will continue to play in the 50-over format.
Tendulkar, who had handed Rohit his Test debut cap during the 2013 match against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, reflected on the journey they've shared.
"I remember presenting you with your Test cap in 2013 at Eden Gardens and then standing with you on the balcony of Wankhede Stadium the other day - your journey has been a remarkable one. From then to now, you have given your best to Indian cricket as a player and as a captain. Well done, Rohit, on your Test career, and best wishes for what lies ahead," Tendulkar wrote.

In 67 Tests, Rohit amassed 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries, with a highest score of 212 against South Africa in 2019. As captain, he led India in 24 Tests, registering 12 wins, nine defeats, and three draws.
"Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket," the 38-year-old wrote on Instagram.
"It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format."
Rohit, who retired from T20 Internationals alongside Virat Kohli after India’s World Cup triumph in Barbados last year, recently guided India to the ODI Champions Trophy title in Dubai.
His final Test appearance came in Melbourne last year, where India suffered a 184-run defeat to Australia. India went on to lose both the match and the series 2-1.
Jasprit Bumrah, who was Rohit’s deputy, captained India in the first Test—which Rohit missed due to the birth of his second child—and also led the team in the final Test.

Sachin-ji, you are like paaji to youngsters like Kohli and Rohit. Can you please ask Kohli to not move to England from India. UK is full of Pakis and Bangla thugs and Kohli's Bollywood conecttion means, he will be taken away from India centric friends and vision. Pakis have the habit of praising Rohit and Kohli and shoabh, Afridi like India haters use this praise Kohli strategy to abuse India first then prasie Kohli. We do not need Wasim akram, Afridi , Rameez raja likes to praise our cricketers. Let India announce once and for all, no more crickete with Bangladesh and Pakistan. Well, the IPL club owning Bollywood Khans and Maran brothers will be unhappy, but who cares?Read allPost comment
