Hyderabad started off well - removing openers Kaushik Gandhi (4) and L Suryapprakash (7) early - before skipper B Aparajith (38, 2x4, 1x6) and Washington Sundar (45, 4x4, 1x6) pieced together an 84-run stand for the third wicket to turn things around.
Aparajith's 87-ball essay concluded when he gave a return catch to left-arm spinner Mehdi Hasan (2-73) as Tamil Nadu slipped to 97 for 3 in the 32nd over.
Three overs later, Sudeep Tyagi (2-33) had Washington caught by Hasan to leave Tamil Nadu in trouble at 103 for 4. From thereon, Hyderabad managed to pick wickets at regular intervals to put the hosts on the backfoot.
