CHENNAI: Hyderabad were in a comfortable position after winning the toss and fielding first against
TNCA President's XI
in the final of the Kalpathi AGS Buchi Babu tournament at the SSN College ground on Thursday. After bowling out the hosts for 200, Hyderabad were 76 for 1 when bad light stopped play on the opening day.
TNCA President's XI batsmen did get starts but they failed to convert them. Hyderabad started off well - removing openers Kaushik Gandhi (4) and L Suryapprakash (7) early - before skipper B Aparajith (38, 2x4, 1x6) and Washington Sundar (45, 4x4, 1x6) pieced together an 84-run stand for the third wicket to turn things around.
Aparajith's 87-ball essay concluded when he gave a return catch to left-arm spinner
Mehdi Hasan (2-73) as Tamil Nadu slipped to 97 for 3 in the 32nd over.
Three overs later,
Sudeep Tyagi (2-33) had Washington caught by Hasan to leave Tamil Nadu in trouble at 103 for 4. From thereon, Hyderabad managed to pick wickets at regular intervals to put the hosts on the backfoot.
When Mehdi trapped Malolan (2) leg-before, the hosts were struggling at 139 for 6. But contributions from R Rohith (27, 4x4), L Vignesh (26, 3x4, 1x6) and K Vignesh (15, 3x4) took the team to 200.
In their reply, Hyderabad were placed at 76 for 1 in 20 overs with
Tanmay Agarwal (23, 4x4) and K Sumanth (20, 4x4) at the crease. They trail the home team's total by 124 runs.
Akshath Reddy (30, 5x4) was the only one to be dismissed, caught by L Vignesh off Lakshman (1-14).
Brief scores: TNCA President's XI 200 in 56.1 overs (B Aparajith 38, Washington Sundar 45, L Vignesh 26, Pradosh Ranjan Paul 21; Sudeep Tyagi 2-33, M Ravikiran 2-44, Mehdi Hasan 2-73,
Akash Bhandari 2-7) vs
