Hong Kong Sixes 2025: India edge Pakistan by 2 runs (DLS) in rain-hit thriller
The Hong Kong Sixes 2025 continued to produce high-octane entertainment at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground on Friday, as India clinched a narrow two-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in a rain-affected Pool C clash decided by the DLS method. The contest, though shortened by weather interruptions, was filled with flair, power-hitting, and drama before rain had the final say.

Batting first, India posted a competitive 86 for 4 in their six overs, courtesy of a sparkling 11-ball 28 from Robin Uthappa, who smashed three sixes and two fours to set the tone early. Bharat Chipli (24 off 13) anchored the innings, while captain Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten 17 off six balls provided the late flourish. Pakistan’s bowlers did well to contain the scoring in the final over, but India still managed to post a challenging total on a damp outfield.
Pakistan began their reply aggressively, with opener Khawaja Nafay hammering 18 runs off the first over. However, Stuart Binny’s disciplined bowling in the second over brought India back into the game as he dismissed Maaz Sadaqat for seven. Pakistan were cruising at 41 for 1 after three overs, with Nafay (18 off 9) and Abdul Samad (16 off 6) looking well set to guide them home when heavy rain halted play.
After multiple inspections, the umpires called off the match, and the DLS calculation left Pakistan two runs short of the par score, handing India a hard-fought win. Binny’s economical spell of 1 for 7 proved crucial in tilting the game India’s way, while Uthappa’s explosive knock earned him the Player of the Match award.
With this victory, India moved to top of Pool C with two points. Pakistan, meanwhile, slipped to second after one win and one loss from two outings, while Kuwait remained winless at the bottom of the table.
The Hong Kong Sixes 2025 features a fast-paced format, with each team playing a single round-robin within their pool. The top two sides from each group advance to the quarterfinals, followed by knockout stages and classification matches to decide final standings.
