Goud, Arvind named Karnataka senior coaches

BENGALURU: In a shocking move, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Friday decided to replace senior state team coaches PV Shashikanth and GK Anil Kumar after one season.
The duo - both former state Ranji Trophy players - were contracted for one season but were expected to be given an extension considering the team's performance in the past season which included the Vijay Hazare title, South Zone T20 championship and a semifinals finish in the Ranji Trophy.
The seasoned coaches have been replaced by former Karnataka and Railways batsman Yere Goud and the recently retired left-arm pacer Sreenath Arvind.
While Goud comes into the role with a rich experience of 17 years as a player and also mentoring Railways players, Arvind is one of Karnataka's most successful pacers in recent times and also brings with him the experience of being a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore for five seasons.
While both Goud and Arvind are accomplished first-class cricketers, the exit of Shashidhar and Anil Kumar without a second opportunity will put a lot of pressure the incoming coaches.
It is learnt that the KSCA think-tank decided against renewing their last season's coaches contract based on player, and support staff feedback among other parameters.
Goud, who made his first-class debut for Karnataka in 1995 before turning out for his employers Railways in first-class cricket until 2012, coached the state U-19 team last season and the U-16 squad a couple of years ago. While this is his maiden senior team assignment, the role for Arvind will be his first coaching duty.
Another former state pacer NC Aiyappa along with SK Ameet will be at the helm of the U-23 coaching staff while the U-19 team duties will rest with Deepak Chougule and G Chaitra.
