NEW DELHI: With the
Delhi High Court ordering elections for few posts in the embattled Delhi and District Cricket Association (
DDCA), it has emerged that former BCCI acting president
CK Khanna
's wife
Shashi Khanna
is likely to contest for the post of president. As per the HC order, the elections need to be conducted at the earliest since the state association has been a headless body for close to eight months now after
Rajat Sharma
stepped down citing corruption in the association.
The High Court has ordered elections for the posts of president, treasurer and four directors. Secretary Vinod Tihara's signing authority has also been reinstated. The election could be interesting with former finance minister
Arun Jaitley's son Rohan is being pursued by a faction of DDCA to contest for the post of president. This term, however, will be for less than a year since Sharma had served 16 months of his tenure before resigning. The elections are likely to be held as soon as the threat of
coronavirus recedes in Delhi.
It is learnt that Shashi Khanna could be propped up by a lobby comprising CK Khanna and Tihara. “It will be interesting to see if Rohan agrees to contest. A lot of DDCA members have been visiting Rohan to convince him. Otherwise, it should be a lopsided contest since Tihara and Khanna have a solid grip over DDCA politics,” a DDCA source said.
Meanwhile, BCCI has put all funding to DDCA on hold due to the irregularities in the association. BCCI is also mulling setting up an ad-hoc body to run the association.
