Fazal to head Karnataka's senior, U-23 selection panels

BENGALURU: Former Karnataka top-order batsman Fazal R Khaleel has been appointed chairman of the state senior and U-23 selection committees. The 47-year-old, who has featured in 22 first-class matches, replaces Raghuram Bhat at the helm.
Former spinner Anand P Katti has been named the U-19 selection committee chairman while D Jayashree will head the senior women’s selection panel.There has been no major shake-up in the system with most of them having been part of the committees for a few seasons now.
The appointments were made during a KSCA managing committee meeting on Friday.
Yere, Arvind & Mamatha retained
Meanwhile, Yere Goud and Sreenath Arvind have been retained as the head coach and bowling coach respectively of the men’s senior team which won the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 and the Vijay Hazare Trophy before bowing out in the semifinals in the Ranji Trophy last season.
Deepak Chowgule and G Chaitra will continue with the U-23 team as the batting and bowling coaches respectively.
Former Bengal batsman Nikhil Haldipur, a surprise choice last season, has been handed the U-19 reins again as the batting coach with ex-pacer NC Aiyappa heading the bowling department. In the Cooch Behar U-19 tournament last season, Karnataka finished a dismal eighth in the nine-team Group B with one win, three losses and four draws.
Meanwhile, former India all-rounder Mamatha Maben,will continue as the senior women’s team coach with Lakshmi Hariharan marshalling the junior side.
