NEW DELHI: New Zealand's veteran Tim Southee was given a fitting send-off in Tuesday's third Test match against England, shattering record after record.
When New Zealand arrived at Seddon Park, they knew they would lose the series since England had an insurmountable 2-0 advantage. As the series victory was certain, the focus shifted to making sure Southee, who was playing his final Test match for the Kiwis, had a spectacular farewell.
On Day 4 of the Test, New Zealand triumphed over their European opponents by a commanding 423 runs. In Test cricket, this victory is tied for the most runs. New Zealand won the Test by the same margin against Sri Lanka in 2018.
After losing the previous Test in the series by more than 300 runs, the Kiwis became the first side to win a Test match by a margin of more than 300 runs. In Wellington, New Zealand lost to England by 323 runs in the second Test match.
New Zealand has played 10 Test matches at Seddon Park since their most recent loss to South Africa in 2012; they have won eight of them, and two have resulted in draws.
England became the first team to lose by more than 400 runs in a single calendar year after losing the match. The Three Lions were defeated by India by 434 runs in February.
