NEW DELHI: Former Sri Lankan cricketer Dulip Samaraweera has been banned from holding any position within Australian cricket for 20 years due to "inappropriate behaviour" towards a woman player.

The 52-year-old served briefly as the head coach of Victoria's state women's team. Cricket Australia's Conduct Commission found him guilty of a serious breach of the organization's code of conduct.

Cricket Victoria's chief, Nick Cummins, acknowledged the bravery of a victim who recently reported inappropriate behaviour. The Code of Conduct Commission's ruling to impose a 20-year ban on Dulip Samaraweera has been met with strong approval from Cummins, as stated in his comments to cricket.com.au.
