NEW DELHI: Young Indian wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel equaled a 20-year-old record held by Mahendra Singh Dhoni during the ongoing Duleep Trophy by taking seven catches in an innings. The match took place on Sunday in Bengaluru where Jurel represented India A against India B. Despite his exceptional performance behind the stumps, India A suffered a 76-run defeat.Dhoni initially set the record in the 2004/05 season while playing for the East Zone, taking seven catches against the Central Zone. Jurel, 23, demonstrated exceptional glovework to match this feat. However, he had a disappointing performance with the bat, scoring just 2 and 0 in the two innings.Jurel was on Sunday also named in the India squad for the first Test against Bangladesh.India A failed to chase down a target of 275, getting bowled out for 198. KL Rahul scored a patient 51 but lacked support from his teammates. India B's disciplined bowling attack was led by Yash Dayal with figures of 3/50 and supported by Mukesh Kumar (2/50) and Navdeep Saini (2/41).
Jurel's record-equalling effort came in a losing cause as India A struggled against India B's strong bowling attack.
