NEW DELHI: On the second day of the third Test in Sydney, David Warner's farewell innings came to an end as he was dismissed for 34, missing out on a century in his final Test match. The 37-year-old opening batsman left the Sydney Cricket Ground to a standing ovation from the home crowd.

At lunch, Australia stood at 78/1, with Usman Khawaja on 35 and Marnus Labuschagne on three, in response to Pakistan's first-innings total of 313.

SCORECARD: Sydney Test

Warner, who had a let-off when dropped on 20, fell victim to the extra bounce and turn from offspinner Agha Salman, edging a catch to slip. Despite the disappointment of missing out on a century in his farewell Test, Warner received warm applause from the crowd.

The veteran opener's departure marked a notable moment in his illustrious Test career, which spans from his debut in 2011. Warner has accumulated 8,729 Test runs at an average of 44.53, including 26 centuries.

Despite the early setback, Australia look to build a substantial reply with Khawaja and Labuschagne at the crease.

Warner's drop on 20 came from a chance at first slip by debutant Saim Ayub, adding to Pakistan's woes in the field during this series. The lapse in fielding continued a trend of missed opportunities for the visitors.

Australia, having already secured the series with a 79-run win in the second Test in Melbourne, aim to consolidate their position in the ongoing Test at Sydney. The Australians will look to capitalize on the batting platform set by Khawaja and Labuschagne as they continue their innings.
