CHENNAI: Chris Gayle is arguably one of the best batsmen to have played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has records to show for it too. Having started playing in the tournament back in 2009, he has scored an overall 4484 runs and has hit six centuries. The ‘Universe Boss’, as he likes to call himself, also has the highest individual score of 175 not out to his name.

On Tuesday, Gayle recalled the innings which he played for

Royal Challengers Bangalore

(RCB) against Pune Warriors at the

back in 2013. The knock came off 66 balls and included 13 boundaries and 17 sixes with a strike rate of 265.15.

“I remember we were put into bat first and rain interrupted the proceedings after a couple of overs. So we had to return to the dressing room. My West Indies teammate Ravi Rampaul was in the side at that time and I told him that the wicket was a belter. We needed to get a minimum of 170-180 to give ourselves a chance to win the game. Eventually, I walked back into the middle after the rain subsided and I picked up from where I left off,” Gayle said during the show ‘Open Nets with Mayank’ on IPL’s official website.

The Jamaican opener said it was one of those occasions when he felt nothing could go wrong for him. “I was in that flow and rhythm. As a batsman, you get the feeling sometimes that you cannot do anything wrong. And it was one of those days. It was remarkable that I was speaking about a team total of 175 but ended up scoring those many runs myself,” Gayle said.
