Chhattisgarh edge past Tamil Nadu in women's Twenty20 match

CHENNAI: Chhattisgarh defeated Tamil Nadu by three runs in the senior women's Twenty20 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Monday. In what was a low-scoring encounter, Chhattisgarh made 100 for 6 in their stipulated 20 overs. In reply, the home side ended up on 97 for 7.
Tamil Nadu opener D Hemalatha (46, 4x4) held the innings together for the better part of the innings.Apart from her, only L Nethra (12) managed to reach double figures. For the winning side, Urmila Harina (1 for 25), Shraddha Vaishnava (1 for 18) and Shyla Alam (1 for 17) shone with the ball.
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu were able to restrict Chhattisgarh for 100. The main contributors for Chhattisgarh were their skipper M Shalini (25, 3x4) and Priya Verma (35 no, 3x4). Shalini and Priya were involved in a 36-run stand for the third wicket that helped the side gain momentum. For Tamil Nadu, KN Ramyashri (2 for 8) and D Hemalatha (1 for 20) led the way with the ball. Chhattisgarh pocketed 4 points for their efforts.
In other matches, Odisha scored an eight-wicket win over Tripura. Taking first strike, Tripura made 110 for 6. In reply, Odisha were able to chase down the total - scoring 112 for 2 - in 18.2 overs. Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) too reigned supreme over Punjab, registering a 6-run victory. J&K managed to score 100 for 5 from their 20 overs with Rubia Syed leading the charge - scoring 50. Punjab, in their reply, finished on 94 in 19.3 overs. Sandhya Sayal stood out with bowling figures of 4 for 9.
