Sri Lanka has revealed its 16-player T20I squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand. The International Cricket Council (ICC) reported this announcement on Wednesday.
Charith Asalanka will captain the Sri Lankan team. The squad will compete in three T20I matches and three ODIs against New Zealand.
The squad remains unchanged from the team that competed against New Zealand at home in November.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa keeps his place on the team. His recent strong performances in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament and the previous series against New Zealand earned him this spot.
Sri Lanka and New Zealand played a two-match T20I series in November. The series took place at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla.
Sri Lanka won the first match by four wickets. New Zealand bounced back to win the second match by a narrow margin of five runs, leveling the series.
The Sri Lankan T20I squad is set to depart for New Zealand on Friday, according to the ICC. Following the T20I series, the two teams will also play three One Day Internationals (ODIs).
These ODI matches are scheduled for January 5, 8, and 11.
The T20I series begins on December 28. The second and third matches will be played on December 30 and January 2, respectively.
The first two T20I matches will be hosted in Mount Maunganui. The final T20I match will be played in Nelson.
Sri Lanka recently suffered a 2-0 series whitewash against South Africa in the Test format.
The Sri Lanka T20I squad comprises the following players: Charith Asalanka (Captain), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Jeffrey Vandersay, Chamidu Wickramasinghe, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, Asitha Fernando, and Binura Fernando.
