“I’ve no idea if 21 sixes is a record in any format of the game. I took my time. I hit my first six as late as in the ninth over — the last over of the Powerplay. I was able to connect the ball well today. This is a special innings," Shetty told TOI.

"It was my dream to score a double hundred, so scoring 250 is an icing on the cake. Due to Covid, no local games happened for the last two years. I was looking forward to play matches. I made the most of it today.”

Powered by Shetty’s epic knock, DY Patil SA rustled up an enormous 569 for three in 43 overs.

The 34-year-old Shetty has played nine first-class, 14 List A and 6 T20 games for Mumbai and Tripura, for whom he played in the 2018-19 season. He last played for Mumbai back in 2018 against Gujarat at Rajkot, and is now hoping that this innings would help him stage a comeback into the team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

“I hope it gets recognised and I’m able to make a comeback into the Mumbai team. Age shouldn’t be an issue when the selectors consider me for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. I’m fit and don’t look old one bit,” he said.

DY Patil’s total included a penalty of 88 runs as Comrade bowled two overs short of the stipulated time after choosing to field first. Young Comrade CC, in response, made 364 for six in 43 overs.

Brief Scores: DY Patil SA 569-3 in 43 overs (Bravish Shetty 252 not out, Shubham Ranjane 73, Hardik Tamore 65, Srujan Athawale 58) beat Young Comrade CC 364-6 in 43 overs (Anish Chaudhery 151, Yogesh Dongare 53, Swapnil Bivalkar 39, Saurabh Singh 30) by 105 runs.
