Big blow! Australia pacer out for 12 months, set to miss Ashes series - here's why
Australian fast bowler Lance Morris will be sidelined for 12 months following back surgery, ruling him out of contention for the upcoming Ashes series.
The 27-year-old paceman, who has been on the fringe of the Australian team, was initially selected for the ongoing one-day series against South Africa.

He withdrew from the series after experiencing lower back discomfort during preparations, with subsequent tests revealing a lumbar bone stress injury.
"I feel this is the most logical way to realise my full potential and return to my very best cricket for the Perth Scorchers, Western Australia and Australia long into the future," Morris said in a statement.
"I also take great confidence in others who have undergone similar procedures and returned to their best. I plan to work hard through my recovery and return when the time is right."
Cricket Australia confirmed Morris's expected absence would span approximately 12 months, eliminating his chances of making an Ashes debut.
Morris was considered as a potential fifth pace bowling option for the England series, providing backup to the established quartet of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland.
