CHENNAI: Mahendra Singh Dhoni has unbridled passion for bikes and his large collection of the mean machines is a testament to his love. From the modest Rajdoot RD350 to Harley Davidson Fatboy, the former India captain owns more than 40 bikes. And this collection has impressed
Barry Richards. So much so that the former South Africa batsman wants Dhoni to give him a ride on his Harley Davidson.
“Dhoni has got a lovely attitude to cricket.
So probably, I would ask him what are his interests outside of cricket, I would really like to know that. I would ask him whether I can have a ride on his Harley Davidson,” Richards said on Fan Play-Sports Ruler Inside Out with Baggs show.
During the Coronavirus-enforced lockdown, Dhoni has been cooped up with his wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva at his farmhouse in Ranchi. In one of Sakshi’s social media posts, Dhoni is seen giving Ziva a ride on one of his bikes.
Dhoni, who had last played for India in the World Cup semi-final against England last year, has been one of the best captains India ever had. Richards, who thrilled the fans with his strokeplay in the 1970s, said that Dhoni’s leadership qualities reminded him of former England captain
Mike Brearley.
The 74-year-old Richards said that both Dhoni and Brearley had the ability to get the best out of their players. “Captains of my era are a little bit different. They had less pressure from the media than they do today. Mike Brearley was always a very impressive captain. He might not have been the best player but a very impressive captain. He got the best out of the players. So in my era he would probably be the best captain,” Richards said.
