NEW DELHI: “It’s the pitch where everything happened! Barbados will forever be in my veins,” said Rohit Sharma on JioHotstar’s exclusive special “Champions Waali Feeling Phir Se,” as he looked back on one of Indian cricket’s most cherished moments — their triumphant run at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
It’s been a year since India broke their 17-year T20 World Cup drought, lifting the trophy after a thrilling final against South Africa at Kensington Oval.
In a pulsating contest that went down to the last over, India held their nerve to clinch the title and end years of heartbreak.

A standout moment came earlier in the tournament, the fiery clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan.
“It wasn’t just a game,” Rohit recalled. “Two days before the match, we were locked in — tight security, fans everywhere, you could feel something special was coming. It felt like a festival had taken over.”
India edged out Pakistan by six runs in a tense, low-scoring thriller. Jasprit Bumrah’s masterful 3 for 14 earned him Player of the Match.
Though India faltered early with the bat — losing Kohli, Rohit, and Axar quickly — Rishabh Pant’s fearless 42 off 31 balls rescued the innings and took India to 119.
“On that pitch, his 42 was like scoring 70,” Rohit said. “We knew 140 was par, but with our bowlers, even 119 could work.”
Rohit credited Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh for executing the plan perfectly. “Bumrah is a weapon — he takes wickets and dries up runs. Arshdeep’s been brilliant too, and they were crucial in pushing the game in our favour.”
From the electric atmosphere of the India-Pakistan showdown to the nerve-wracking final in Barbados, Rohit’s reflection is a powerful tribute to a team that gave a nation unforgettable memories.
