MUMBAI: Former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule, ex-India batsman Atul Bedade, and former Mumbai wicketkeepers

Sulakshan Kulkarni

, Vinayak Samant and Sandeep Dahad are amongst the applicants for the Mumbai coach's position.

As per the advertisement put up by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on its website last week, the deadline to apply for the job ended on Monday, 4pm. All the candidates will now be interviewed by the Cricket improvement committee (CIC), which is headed by former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar.

Bahutule, who played two Tests and eight ODIs for India, coached Bengal for the past three seasons. Bedade has coached Baroda for the last two seasons, and currently is the Baroda women's team coach. The former left-hander, though, is unlikely to bag the job since the MCA doesn't hire outstation coaches.

"I was brought up in Mumbai and have followed Mumbai cricket closely. As a Baroda coach, I have seen how Mumbai played against us," Bedade told TOI on Monday.

Before he coached Vidarbha, Kulkarni was the Mumbai coach from 2011 to 2014, and guided the team to the Ranji Trophy title in the 2012-13 season. Under him, Mumbai reached the semis in 2011, and quarters in 2014. He later coached Chhattisgarh.

Samant was Mumbai's coach last season. Mumbai clinched the Vijay Hazare Trophy, before crashing out in the Ranji Trophy at the league stage, and ending the season by making the knockouts of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, where they narrowly missed out on a place in the final. Dahad was Tripura's coach a few years back.
