Nortje's injury troubles continue after a nine-month layoff due to a stress fracture sustained in September 2023. He made a comeback for the T20 World Cup, helping South Africa reach the final in June.

The 31-year-old was injured during training before the first T20 match against Pakistan in Durban on Tuesday. He was subsequently ruled out of that game, which South Africa won.

Further scans on Wednesday revealed a fracture in Nortje's toe. He will now consult with doctors to decide on the appropriate treatment.

Uncapped all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem will replace Nortje for the remaining two T20 matches. These games are scheduled for Friday in Pretoria and Saturday at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
