PUNE: Miami-based World Record Academy has registered Pune's Blades of Glory as the largest cricket museum in the world.
Founded by cricket enthusiast and businessman Rohan Pate, the 5,000 square feet museum has over 51,000 memorabilia from present and former cricketers all over the world. It is situated in the Sahakarnagar area.
The gallery, also known as 'Castle of Cricket' has many collectors' items, such as bats and balls signed by captains of the World Cup winning teams, along with autographed personal gears used by cricketing greats including Sir Donald Bradman, Sir Viv Richards,
Kapil Dev,
Sunil Gavaskar, MS Dhoni,
VVS Laxman,
Imran Khan, and
Virat Kohli among others.
The press release states that the museum has been ranked over several other museums including the ones at Lord's, The Bradman Museum, West Indies Cricket Heritage Centre, Grenada, and the New Zealand Cricket Museum, Wellington, for having the largest collection of cricket memorabilia.
The above mentioned museums are either managed by cricket boards, trusts or governments, while Blades of Glory is run by an individual.
The museum also includes sections dedicated to
Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli and has been visited by some of the greats of the game like Sir Clive Llyod, Sir
Andy Roberts, Alvin Kalicharan, Bret Lee,
Chris Gayle and many more international players.
Pate said, "Cricket is a religion in India and my passion for this sport has led me to do this (build a museum). Considering the recognition, I want to now establish a cricket museum in all Indian metro cities, the first one being in Mumbai and also setting it up in all cricketing nations."
