CHENNAI: Former Mumbai stalwart
Amol Muzumdar is in the city guiding a bunch of first-class cricketers from New Zealand - Canterbury Cricket Club - as part of a five-day training programme organised by Global Cricket School and Cricket Drome.
Muzumdar, who has a staggering 11167 first-class runs, got to work as batting consultant at the Cricket Drome facility on Wednesday. The 42-year-old former Mumbai skipper, who is a consultant with Global Cricket School, said it felt great to be back at the “home of spin” in India. “Chennai is my second assignment as consultant. Earlier last year, I had worked with a visiting South Africa A side in Mumbai. It feels good to be here. Cricket is a global game and it's wonderful to pass on the knowledge I had gained playing cricket for nearly two decades,” he told TOI.

Gary Stead is in charge of the 10 players. Some of the exciting talents to watch out for in the group are pacer Henry Shipley and left-arm spinner
Jeremy Benton, who represented New Zealand in the U19 World Cup.
Muzumdar mentioned his primary agenda is to give assurance to the youngsters that most things that have been said about the `difficult Indian conditions' is a ‘myth.’
The Indo-NZ coaching duo challenged the young lot with quite a few game scenarios on day one. At the end of it, Muzumdar said their adaptability was “spot on” from ball one. “They come from proper cricketing background. I was impressed with their adaptability factor which was spot on. One scenario was to put them under scoring pressure and see how they react to it,” added Muzumdar.
