Ambati Rayudu clarifies 'eye-for-eye' social media post after backlash
NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu on Thursday found himself at the centre of social media backlash after posting a message promoting peace amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
His original post on X read, “An eye for an eye makes the world blind,” which many online users interpreted as inappropriate given the escalating conflict.

Let’s remember — this isn’t a call for weakness, but a reminder of wisdom,” Rayudu wrote in his original post. “Justice must stand firm, but never lose sight of humanity. We can love our nation fiercely and still hold compassion in our hearts. Patriotism and peace can walk hand in hand.”
Facing mounting criticism, Rayudu later clarified his stance with a more detailed post, aiming to explain the intent behind his message.
"In moments like these, we stand united not in fear, but in resolve. I feel immense gratitude to our Indian Army who are the real heroes who carry the weight of a nation with unmatched courage, discipline, and selflessness.
Your sacrifices don't go unnoticed. Your bravery is what keeps the tricolour flying high and our borders safe. May your strength always lead us to safety, and may your service continue to pave the way for a more peaceful tomorrow. Jai Hind."
Rayudu's clarification came as other prominent Indian cricketers took a more assertive tone.
Former opener Virender Sehwag strongly condemned Pakistan’s actions, suggesting the neighbouring country had deliberately escalated tensions to protect terror elements.
“War has been chosen by Pakistan when they had an opportunity to keep quiet,” Sehwag posted. “Our forces will reply in the most appropriate manner, a manner Pakistan will never forget.”
Shikhar Dhawan also weighed in, expressing admiration for the Indian Armed Forces and their swift response to recent drone threats. “Respect to our brave hearts for protecting our borders with such strength. India stands strong. Jai Hind!” he wrote.
The reactions come as defence sources confirmed that Pakistan had fired eight missiles targeting several areas near the border. Thanks to India’s advanced air defence systems, all incoming missiles were successfully intercepted, avoiding any major damage or casualties.
